Exhibit: Trip to Cozumel Mexico
Benchmark: Teamwork/Communications
Skills: TC101: Understand the cultural traditions of others
TC102: Seek to understand different points of view
Two years ago I was able to take a spring break trip to Cozumel, Mexico. While I was there I noticed some things that were different compared to the United States. It has a really fascinating trip because I got to try some new things and learn more about the Mexican culture.
While I was in Cozumel many things were different such as the food, music, celebrations, and many more. The food there is more on the spicy type, but it is fresh. Some restaurants are on the ocean so the scuba divers can just go out and catch the fish right then and there. Spanish music is different. It seems as if they don’t have any rock music or sad songs just techno and rap. The people there always seem happy and they love to have parties. When families and friends get together to celebrate they are all so happy and cheerful. I was able to see a family get together while I was out to eat with the group I was in. They would sing, dance, and try to make music out of kitchen items, which was pretty cool. In the United States it seems that people here aren’t as happy with what they have. Like down in Mexico they are all about family and friends while up here most people don’t like to have a family get together.
Being able to go to a foreign country was an interesting yet exciting trip. Seeing how people from a different country act will help me with my career because I could have patients that haven’t always been in the United States. As a young adult that traveled to another country, I will be able to make new friends and communicate better with them because I know more about their culture and beliefs.

Exhibit: T-Ball Coach
Benchmark: Teamwork/Communications
Skills: TC103: Anticipate the impact of your actions or words on others
TC106: Give and accept feedback in a positive way
Since last year I have helped my JV Baseball Coach, Brett Halsey, and coach T-Ball. I was the assistant coach and helped out with teaching kids field and swing properly. Every year kids ages six to eight have the choice to sign up a to participate in T-Ball. The kids play a game every Saturday for two months.
As a coach I had to be there for every practice and games. This has taught me how to be committed and responsible. Being the assistant coach for the T-Ball team meant a lot. My coach chose me to help because I was the kid that always showed the most hard work and commitment. By showing my coach my work ethic I was able to become a coach and show the kids how a good work ethic goes a long way.
In the medical field I will have young patients and co-workers that will look up to me. I will pass on my hard work and dedication to my co-workers. Giving and accepting positive feedback as a young adult will benefit me because when I become a physical therapist I will need to be able to help others and accept constructive criticism. When I am a parent I want to be the best role model I could possibly be and have my children look up to me. Being a coach for the T-Ball team I was able to learn many skills and they will benefit me in the future.

Exhibit: Float Building
Benchmark: Teamwork/ Communications
Skills: TC104- Listen to different group members and ask relevant questions
TC105- Express one’s point of view in a teamwork setting
Every year Hanover-Horton High School I was able to be a part of the homecoming float building. For every homecoming game students of each class get together to build a float based on what theme they were given. The whole point of float building is to not only gather as a class and cherish moments together, but to celebrate the hard work the football team has put into their season.
While participating in float building everyone has the option to share their unique ideas of creativity. The class has to create ideas out of random objects to make that object match the theme. As we all know everyone thinks differently. During the time of float building we all have to come up with unique ideas and share them with one another. If someone messed up we would all help out to fix the problem and communicate with one another to get it solved faster. Three out of the four years we have won the float building contest do to our hard work, teamwork, and great communication.
Being a member of the medical field in the future, teamwork and communication is a critical part of the job. Every day I will be communicating with my co-workers to help the next patient. Having co-workers, it is extremely important to help one another to get the right diagnosis for the patient which will call for great teamwork. As a young adult it is important to learn how to communicate and work as a team early on in life. Working together and cooperating with one another will make me successful in the future.

Exhibit: Varsity Sports
Benchmark: Teamwork/Communication
Skills: TC107- Understand and contribute to the mission and goals of the team
TC108- Show commitment to the team
For the past four years I have participated in high school sports. Those sports were baseball, soccer, football, and wrestling. Every year I worked harder and harder to become the best I could possibly be. Being committed to something for the past four years has taught me how to be dedicated and committed.
Each of those teams had a set goal to succeed in their upcoming season. During my sophomore year of varsity baseball we were district champs. We had succeeded our goal to become the best in the district. We fought hard all the way through twelve extra innings. Being a part of the varsity wrestling team is an accomplishment. Wrestling is an extremely tiring sport, but we are all disciplined enough to where we don’t notice how tired we are. My senior year of wrestling had the best record in Hanover-Horton history with seven wins and six losses. I am honored to be a part of all the sports I participate in. Without good grades I wouldn’t be able to participate in any so sports help me stay focused on my grades as well.
In the future I will have to use my skills to work as a team to be able to reach our goals. In the medical field there are many things that have to do with teamwork and I will have to be able to participate and be cooperative to reach the needs of the patients and co-workers. When I am a father I want my children to have a great attitude and know how to work together as a team.

Exhibit: Science Labs
Benchmark: Teamwork/Communications
Skills: TC109: Make and/or follow a set of rules and procedures
During my junior year I took chemistry. Chemistry was a difficult, but yet a fun class to take. About once a week we were assigned to construct a science lab. Science labs are procedures that we created to find the outcome of two or more chemicals reacting to one another. We have to follow steps to find a solution to our experiment.
There are many things that go into science labs. We must create steps and procedures and follow them to keep our variables as precise as possible. Every time we did a lab we were paired up with another partner. As a team, we had to come up with some sort of table to write down our results and then create solutions to fix the problems we faced during the experiment. Being a part of this class you had to have good teamwork skills and be able to communicate with others well.
When I go into the medical field I will need to have good listening skills and follow procedures to my best ability. Being in chemistry and doing science labs helped be become a better listener and follow procedures correctly. Physical therapy will have a lot of rules and procedures to follow. As a young adult I am able to follow rules and procedures clearer.

Exhibit: Varsity Wrestling
Benchmark: Teamwork/communication
Skills: TC110- Help other team members accomplish their tasks
During my junior and senior years of varsity wrestling we have accomplished many things. The things we did may not have been big, but for us they were. For one, last year we got our first conference win in six years. This year, my senior year, we had the best conference record ever to go through Hanover-Horton High School with a record of six wins and six losses. This was a huge deal to us all.
In wrestling practices we have many drills that we do, but one in particular seemed to work the best. We would get partners and wrestle around and give each other tips on how to improve our skills and technique. My wrestling partner was Alex Gonzales. While we were wrestling I told him to put someone in a power half and it seemed to work well for him, but he never do it in a meet. So, his next match I told him when he breaks his opponent down to put him in that power half and drive him over to his back and then the move worked and he got his first win.
Being on the wrestling team has taught me to never give up and to help people accomplish their goals whether you get any benefit out of it or not. When I go into the medical field and become a physical therapist I will need to be a great co-worker and help others out as much as possible to help reach their goal(s). As a young adult I have learned that doing things for others gives you a better feeling about yourself and that will help me out in the future.

Exhibit: Art Class
Benchmark: Teamwork/Communication
Skills: TC111- Serve as a leader in your own area of expertise
TC112- Request support or help from others when needed
As one of my favorite classes in high school, Art has always consisted hands-on projects. The projects are drawing, painting, clay, and ink drawings. I’ve always enjoyed drawing because it’s what I’m good at. Art lets you express your thoughts and feelings without words.
As a student in art class, many people have liked my work in the past few years. Being in art has taught me how to be proud of the things I have the ability to create. People come to me when they need help and I am usually able to help them out and fix their problems. My best art work is ink drawing and people come to me a lot during the time we do that project. I mess up a lot as well. If I have any question I always asked Mr. Marvin for help and try to improve my work.
As I go into the medical field I will need to have the ability to serve as a leader and request help from other workers. Art relates to my career choice because it allows me to be creative and show the skill I have to my best ability and I will need that if I want to be a physical therapist. As a young adult people may come to me for help and I will have to do things my best to help them out. I will also need to ask questions later in life as well.
